Rethink Homelessness

Apartment Starter Kit Mission

Central Florida Commission on Homelessness has initiated a housing-first approach to resolve the homeless situation in Seminole, Orange, and Osceola counties. The Commission provides subsidized apartment housing for Veteran, Disabled, and Chronic homeless individuals who qualify for assistance. In addition the Commission provides social services as needed for the recipients to insure they have a second chance to become productive in the community. Since initiation of the program, 339 recipients have received homes and greater than 98% of those are thriving in their new home environment. Tuskawilla United Methodist Church supports this effort by compiling and delivering Apartment Starter kits that include a TV, microwave, lamps, bed sheets, blankets, towels, dishes, cookware, and occasionally furniture items such as a couch, table, chairs, or dresser. The church has donated 13 of the kits and will continue to provide until homelessness in our area becomes nearly non-existent.
